Creating a successful chocolatier in 3 months’ time.
An empty building close to the Colosseum in the Cultural City, forced AKH to contact M&O for an urgent solution, including extremely quick turnover. In good Arabic tradition, the briefing was short: “Create a luxurious chocolatier that would become the talk of the town. You have 3 months”. M&O enjoyed the impossible challenge and had the ambition to make a project that was sophisticated in every single detail. Upon designing and pre-visualising the interior and exterior of the location, all items were manufactured by production spots - mainly in Germany, Spain, France, and Holland, before the handmade products were flown to Doha for assembly and final set-up. When Chac’Late opened its doors right on time in February 2013, the main attraction was a custom-made chocolate fountain with two lion heads pouring dark and white chocolate. The chocolatier instantly became a magnet for locals and tourists alike, and financially the most successful hospitality concept of AKH in Katara. As a result, M&O was asked to create L’Orangerie, an extension to the Chac’Late building. Additionally, a mobile sales trolley, designed like a historical royal carriage, was built to serve visitors at horse races in Paris and London, endorsing the taste of Chac’Late even further.
